Our School App Stay connected on the go...
As in almost every other school in the country, our Early Years section follows the national EYFS principles. However, at Aberdour we provide a particularly broad and rich curriculum which gives a real boost to the start of the children's education.
The curriculum is balanced to give the children a breadth of experiences throughout the day, the week and the school term, and we make sure each child has a varied day which keeps them stimulated and encourages them to want to find out more for themselves.
There are detailed plans for each class and the structure behind what we do means that each child develops their understanding and skills at their own pace, but towards the same overall goals in terms of knowledge, skills and self-confidence.
The really good staff to pupil ratio allows for a wide variety of activities to be available throughout the day, with each child receiving plenty of individual attention and encouragement. They are given free access to resources and are encouraged to learn through their own experiences and individual interests.
Children learn both within the classroom and outside it, making use of the dedicated Early Years area which has its own playground and even its own treehouse and walkways. They also make good use of our general facilities, including the spacious grounds, the woods, and our specialist resources such as the sports hall and swimming pool.
From an early age, pupils are taught French, Music and Swimming, giving them breadth and excitement that go beyond what is normal at this age and stage.
