Our Community #aberdourcommunity
"A school is so much more than lessons and timetables. It is a living community of children, parents and staff – and when that community works together with a shared sense of purpose, children flourish."
PHILLIP MAKHOULI - HEADMASTER, ABERDOUR SCHOOL
At Aberdour School, our Parents' Association, known as "TAPA" (The Aberdour Parents' Association), is at the heart Our Community. TAPA is a registered charity run entirely by a committee made up of volunteer parents. Their focus extends beyond simply raising funds. TAPA organise social events throughout the year, and aim to encourage parents and families to attend and welcome them into the Aberdour community.
The committee meets on a regular basis during term times and we always welcome new members. We organise and run interesting and enjoyable events for parents and children, with a broad programme that allows the entire school community to come together in various ways throughout the year. Our events have included the ever popular Fireworks display, the super festive Christmas Fayre, quiz nights, a Circus, summer fetes, and various social events for parents.
Everyone is welcome, and TAPA is an important part of life at Aberdour School. All parents automatically become members as soon as their children start at the school. We have a welcome meeting at the beginning of the school year, giving new parents the chance to get to know other families and to start making new friends.
How can you help us?
Please do let us know if you would like to get involved. We always welcome volunteers.
We welcome and appreciate all volunteers, from joining The Collins' Coffee Shop rota, to helping plan, prepare and run our events.
We understand that not everyone can volunteer their time, and we also welcome new ideas for events and fundraising opportunities. So if you have any good ideas, no matter how unusual, please let us know.
Match funding
Many companies offer employees the chance to boost their personal fundraising efforts by 'matching' money raised.
If your employer has a matching funds program, why not see if they would help double the money raised by us simply by filling in a form?
Where does the money go?
Over the years, TAPA has made significant donations to the School's facilities, purchasing items and paying for various activities. TAPA has also contributed to major projects such as the playground equipment and the projector system and classroom smartboards. It also bought catering equipment and fittings for the fabulous The Collins' Coffee Shop.
We are always keen to hear parents' ideas and if you have an item or project you would like to suggest to TAPA for funding, please let us know.
Our community looks forward to meeting you at The Collins' Coffee Shop.
TAPA accounts are filed each year with the Charity Commission and can be viewed on their website. Our registered charity number is 1068853.
