Art & Design

Art and Design at Aberdour encourages creativity and imagination. We provide visual, tactile and sensory opportunities for our pupils, in a relaxing and fun environment. Pupils use colour, form, texture, pattern and different materials to explore what they feel, see and think of the world around them. Through creativity, they learn to make aesthetic and practical decisions, thus enabling them to become confident, independent learners.

Our pupils have the freedom to challenge ideas and shape their creative journey. They study the work and ideas of artists, sculptors and designers, as well as collaborating with visiting artists on projects which enrich our students learning experience.

We have a designated Art Studio and Design & Technology Workshop in Prep and The Atelier in Pre-Prep, allowing pupils to work with a variety of mediums. We invite a number of different artists to run workshops in either painting, wire sculpture or willow weaving, to name a few. We host an annual light show that incorporates showcasing the art and sculptures.

Art Studio

Our Art Studio is a bright, inspiring space filled with natural light, designed to spark imagination and creativity. It is generously stocked with a wide array of resources — from paints and pastels to specialist materials like sewing machines — allowing children to explore a broad range of artistic techniques and media.

The separate DT lab which offers even more opportunities for hands-on, creative learning. Equipped with specialist tools and its very own kiln, it’s a space where children can design, build, sculpt and experiment — bringing their ideas to life in three dimensions.

The Atelier

Our Artists Workshop is located in one of our Pre-Prep specialist learning turrets; a place where the children’s imagination can flourish as they create, design and build using natural materials such as, clay, wood and cork.
