What Senior School Heads say about our pupils

"Aberdour pupils are fabulous. They are kind, thoughtful, enthusiastic and always willing to get involved with everything on offer here at Epsom. They approach school life with a positive, 'can-do' attitude and a sense of fun. They have been really well-prepared for the move to senior school and are determined to excel in and out of the classroom. We can't get enough of them!"

Mark Lascelles – Headmaster, Epsom College

"We have been delighted to welcome pupils from Aberdour School into the Reigate Grammar School community as part of along standing partnership between our two schools. From the moment they arrive, they demonstrate a super blend of curiosity, kindness, and confidence. Their outstanding aptitude for learning is matched by an enthusiasm for school life that sees them grow and develop amongst the many RGS opportunities that they grasp with both hands, and they quickly become valued members of their classes.

What stands out is their character: they are thoughtful, respectful, and supportive  - they are good friends in every sense. Whether in the classroom, on the sports field, or in co-curricular activities, they bring a quiet determination and a joyful spirit that enriches RGS.  Our School Captains team usually has at least one student from Aberdour, elected by merit.

It is clear that Aberdour has prepared them not only academically but also socially and emotionally. They transition with ease, contribute with purpose, and uphold the values that both our schools hold dear. We are proud to have them with us and grateful for the strong foundation they bring from Aberdour." SHAUN FENTON - HEADMASTER, RGS

"We have been delighted to welcome pupils from Aberdour into our Year 7 cohort this year. They have settled in quickly, embraced school life and are making a positive contribution to our community. Their character, confidence and curiosity shine through - whether it’s Lewis and Joshan inspiring their peers with a Headmaster’s Commendation-worthy assembly on coin collecting, Sam making a strong impact across our sports teams, or Josh and Lottie sharing their talents in drama and dance productions. Millie is already playing up a year in cricket and Mayan is actively involved in sport too. These young people are not only well-prepared academically but also demonstrate a strong sense of initiative and enthusiasm - they are a real credit to Aberdour."

Mark Tottman – Headmaster, Dunottar

"In my 7 years as Head of Lower School I have seen a number of Aberdour pupils pass through the Lower School. What has always stood out is, first and foremost, their kindness to others, willingness to give things a try and to make friends whilst they're doing it. They always transition very smoothly with a quiet confidence that allows them to contribute in the classroom, on the sports field, on the stage and in the new clubs and activities they have enjoyed. We have also had a number of Aberdour pupils who have been House Captains and Aberdour has been a good grounding for those leadership opportunities.

They also tell me that Aberdour has been an excellent preparation for life in the Lower School. They cite the facilities and opportunities afforded to them as the ideal springboard into life in the Lower Third."

Richard Harvey – Head of Lower School, St John’s

"We’ve been fortunate to welcome a large number of pupils from Aberdour over the years, and they’ve consistently brought with them a special spark — curious, engaged, and full of enthusiasm for learning — which is testament to the culture nurtured at Aberdour. Our staff regularly comment on how these pupils ask thoughtful questions, relish a challenge, and arrive at Caterham with a deep-rooted love of learning.

What also stands out is their collaborative spirit. They enjoy working with others, often bring remarkable talents to the fore, and approach school life with a real sense of fun. They make a confident and meaningful contribution to the wider life of the School — a combination that speaks volumes, and a real credit to the foundations laid at Aberdour.

We look forward to many more years of welcoming Aberdour pupils to Caterham." MATTHEW WOOD - DEPUTY HEAD (ADMISSIONS AND PARTNERSHIPS), CATERHAM

What our Parents say about Aberdour

"At 6am today, Julian woke up — not because I told him to, not because he had to — but because he wanted to practice his speech. Watching him take such responsibility and pride in his work brought tears to my eyes. In that moment, I realised just how much he has grown, not only in knowledge, but in character.

And I know he didn’t become this young man on his own.

It is thanks to the care, dedication and belief of the teachers at Aberdour that he is becoming someone who is committed, thoughtful and eager to contribute. While grades and exams matter, especially in this right moment of Y6, what matters even more is the kind of person a child blossoms into — and I am so grateful that Julian is becoming someone who strives to do the right thing, even when no one is watching or asking him.

Thank you — truly — for guiding him, challenging him and nurturing his confidence. You are not just educating children; you are shaping future adults with strong values, and that is an incredible gift for us, which we recognize.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for helping my son grow into someone who wants to be an asset to his school — and to the world."

"I still remember that first day in nursery, leaving my two year old son, hoping with all my heart that he would be happy and smiling when I collected him. He certainly was, and still is 9 years later! I can honestly say that choosing Aberdour was one of the best decisions we have ever made. The teachers from nursery through to Year 6 have not only educated him, they have nurtured, encouraged and championed him.

As a family we have thrown ourselves into Aberdour life and enjoyed the amazing events, the vibrant PA, the social hub that is the coffee shop, as well as the beautiful grounds and top of the range facilities.

We are sad to be leaving this school, that not only claims to find the brilliance in every child, but truly delivers on this. However, we move forward with friends made, confidence gained and ready for the next chapter! Thank you Aberdour for your kindness, care, support and for pushing our son to be the best that he can be, truly brilliant!" PAST PARENT

"Aberdour is such a happy and nurturing environment for the children. My son has been at Aberdour since September 2023 and I can see him developing into an amazing little person. He goes in happily to school and comes out with a happy face. The teachers are so friendly and accommodating. The school is more like a family to my little boy. Aberdour's Pre-Prep is just amazing." CURRENT PARENT

"The Nursery at Aberdour is outstanding. My children are always excited to go in every morning, greeted by their warm, friendly teachers. All the staff (both teachers and teaching assistants) go above and beyond to create such a caring environment and, because of that, the teaching is exceptional. The new facilities are also incredible and the children are so fortunate to have access to rooms such as their own bakery. All this makes the nursery an excellent foundation for those early years of a child’s learning." CURRENT PARENT

"My children love being at school. We used to live in the outside of London, and we had to make this transition of school and new place to live. It was a big change, and the school was essential in helping them adapt. Teachers and staff are always very polite and caring with the children. It makes me feel welcome and confident to leave them here. I can say it's a wonderful place." CURRENT PARENT
