Admissions Process

We try to make our Admissions process as simple and friendly as possible, and our Registrar, Tracy Doyle, is always available to answer any questions. To find out more or arrange a visit, please contact Tracy on 01737 354119 or email her at registrar@aberdourschool.co.uk.

Registration

The first stage of our Admissions Process is to register your child for a place, so that we can keep a space for you.  There is a simple Registration Form which can be found at the bottom of this page and we ask you to pay a non-refundable Registration Fee of £100.00.

Assessment Days

After registration, all children joining the School are invited to attend an Assessment Day at the appropriate time.  The admission process varies depending on the age of the child.

Pre-Prep (Nursery – Year 1)

Pupils joining Pre-Prep do so on a non-selective basis and there are no admission tests.  Children are invited in for an initial visit, during which observations and assessments take place in preparation for them joining us.

If your child is already in a nursery or at another school, we will need to have a copy of the most recent school reports.

Middle & Senior Schools (Years 2 – 6)

Pupils seeking entry to the Middle and Senior Schools (Years 2 to 6) must satisfy our entry requirements (published in our formal Admissions Procedure) and will be required to sit assessments.

For entry into Years 2 to 3 we assess reading, writing and mathematics, while for entry into Years 4 to 6 we assess mathematics and verbal reasoning. This is done during the course of the child's Assessment Day, gently and without putting pressure on them. If a place is offered and taken up, the results will be used for setting purposes.

Also on this day, parents will be required to supply a copy of the child's most recent school reports.

Offer of a Place

If a formal offer of a place is made, the School will write to parents enclosing an Acceptance Form for completion and requesting payment of an Acceptance Deposit.  If we are unable to offer a place to an eligible candidate for the requested date of entry, they may be offered a place on a waiting list.

Confirming a Place

The place will not be secured until the parents have completed, signed and return the Acceptance Form and paid the Acceptance Deposit of £400.

In accordance with our Terms and Conditions, the Acceptance Deposit will be held until the pupil leaves the School, when a refund will be made after the final term or used against any outstanding balance on the fee account.

Confirmation Letter

Once we have received your Acceptance Form and Deposit, we write to you confirming that your child has a definite place.   After this we will keep in touch until your child's joining date draws near, at which time you will receive further information and a detailed Induction pack.
