Love language

Year 5 Language Competition Team

16 February 2011

On February 14th pupils from Years 5 & 8 represented Aberdour in a Languages competition at City of London Freemen's School.

The competition was called Love Languages and the theme of the day was Likes and Loves. Year 5 acted out the TV show called Une Rencontre Aveugle (Blind Date). They asked each other questions and at the end chose their dates. The Year 5 performance was excellent and the children injected much fun into their questioning - and the quality of their French was also very high!

We were all delighted when they won the Runners-Up cup in the Year 5/6 category. Well done to Emilia Bindi, James Gompels, Alexander Greaves, Ellie Green, George Kemp, Ellie Jackson, Parisa Shababi and Amy Taylor.

Year 8 performed a sketch in a Spanish restuarant called Restaurante Casa Juan. It was about a group of friends who meet up on Valentine's Day for a meal together. They talk about the activities they like doing and what food they like to eat. They are very demanding customers and complain about many things. The waiter has to work hard to please the customers and does not really succeed. At the end of the meal the friends discover that they do not have enough money to pay for the meal and so the waiter is pleased to inform them that they have to do the washing up!

It was a brilliant performance by our Year 8 pupils and they were competing against 11 other schools in their category. They all received a certificate (and a large box of chocolates to share!).

It was an enjoyable day and a wonderful opportunity for the children to use their linguistic skills in an authentic and fun way. Well done to all the Year 8 pupils who participated in the competition. The waiter was played by Archie Brice-Adams and the group of friends were Kimberley Abbott, Charlotte Bailey, Amber Braysher, Oliver Noble and Suavi Huseyin.
