Personalised Achievement Learning - P.A.L ®
'Placing your child at the centre of everything we do'
A new, unique and exciting system of educational support and development.
From the moment that your child arrives at Aberdour, he or she will be placed at the centre of the learning process. It is our aim to provide your child with a broad curriculum, additional skills and opportunities. In placing emphasis on their academic, social and aspirational development, we will enable them to face the future with confidence, and, throughout your child’s time at Aberdour, we will encourage and support them as they reach for new heights.
At the end of Year 2, the pupil, School and parents set and agree on the general global learning and attainment goals that they will work to meet by the end of their final year at Aberdour. These goals form the basis of their Aberdour Personal Plan (APP). At this point, your child will also be provided with their own personal Tracking Tutor. Your child’s Tracking Tutor will follow their personal development throughout their time at Aberdour.
The long-term global goals are broken down into a plan with key termly goals which, together with each child’s Star Goal (Aspirational Development), will be monitored by their Tracking Tutor during individual tutorial meetings. Departmental tracking will further support your child’s development and progress. Pupils become increasingly involved in the selection of their goals and targets as they progress through the School.
At Aberdour we follow our own three elements of educational development - academic, pastoral and aspirational. Aspirational Development will include Star Goals, Tutorials, Stepping Stones, Aberdour Challenge and Aberdour Active programs.
Part of the P.A.L process includes finding the learning styles that best suit your child’s needs, thereby enabling them to develop learning strategies to meet their goals and targets. Differentiation is at the centre of the teaching process.
The Tracking Tutors are highly qualified and experienced teachers who are dedicated, solely, to tracking and monitoring the academic, pastoral and aspirational development of each child at the School. This attention to detail means that, at the end of their time at Aberdour, each pupil should meet or exceed the achievement goals agreed on and gain entry to the senior school of their choice.
All pupils in Years 7 and 8 also have two timetabled weekly individualised P.A.L lessons, when extension studies in areas such as academics, art, drama, design, information technology, sport and extra-curricula activities, are specifically directed towards the entry and long-term requirements of each child’s first choice of senior school.
Parents will soon be able to access a selection of pupil personal achievement records via an individualised and password-protected Aberdour web-site link – ‘Distance Tracking’ (currently under construction).
Our unique educational support system, developed at Aberdour, places your child at the centre of everything we do.
It is our belief that every child who walks through our doors has brilliance within. It is our aim to find and nurture that brilliance and celebrate, as a whole community, the success of every child – your child.
'Tell me and I may forget. Show me and I may not remember. But involve me and I'll truly understand'
