FINDING THE BRILLIANCE WITHIN

Aberdour School

Main School

By the time children reach the upper age of the Pre-Preparatory School at 7, they are working along well established lines; writing to a standard that wins prizes in national competitions, appreciating books, playing musical instruments and taking part in team sports.  They are beginning to branch out into independent ways of working and are looking forward to moving up to Main School.

Children in Year 3 (ages 7-8) take another step along the road to independence.  Introduced at this stage to specialist subject teachers, they are taught by members of staff who are experienced and knowledgeable about the requirements of young children.  In this way, a carefully considered bridging of the gap between form teachers and specialist teachers is maintained.

By the time children reach the age of 11, they are used to moving around the School to specialist subject areas and are able to take full advantage of all facilities.  In Years 7 and 8, each pupil has two personalised lessons every week which are specifically designed to meet both their individual needs and those of their first choice of senior school - please see our Personalised Achievement Learning (PAL) webpage for more details.

'Pupils learn and achieve well because their attitudes to learning and their behaviour is exemplary, relationships are very strong, and because teaching is effective...' - ISI
