Sports Department

Aberdour offers extensive opportunities for girls and boys to participate in a wide range of sporting activities.

Our emphasis is placed on the acquisition of relevant skills and developing pupils understanding of game awareness and tactics. This, coupled with expert coaching and plenty of encouragement for everyone enable all our pupils, no matter what their ability, to flourish. We want all children to take pride in their own performance and to enjoy sport to the full, however good they are.

We offer the children the chance to take part in team sports – rugby, football, netball, hockey and cricket in our games lessons as well as encouraging sports like basketball, handball, gymnastics, dance and athletics in our PE lessons. The pupils learn about improving their body health and fitness through our “Health Related Fitness” module, where they learn the basics of Sport Science to understand training principles and methods to improve their life-long health. Our pupils from Reception to Year 6 will all swim once a week in addition to their PE lesson. A HUGE array of sports on offer for all our pupils!

There are of course frequent matches against other schools when the children's competitive spirit can come to life. We encourage participation for all pupils in matches as well as the chances to stretch our Gifted and Talented individuals through tournament play, IAPS competition and regional/national competitions. Aberdour are proud to host many inclusive tournaments and festivals through the school year. Including swimming galas and cross country events.

Our recently refurbished Sports Hall can accommodate badminton, fencing, basketball, netball, football, cricket nets and gymnastics all under cover, whilst our superb playing fields encompass football, cross-country running, lacrosse, hockey, rugby, athletics and cricket. We also have all-weather courts for netball, tennis and hockey, three all-weather cricket wickets and two outdoor cricket nets. A recently built climbing wall gives everyone great fun.

Our clubs programme is extensive, looking to build on the core sports we play, but also give extra opportunity in sports they may not play on a regular basis.

Parents are encouraged to attend the many sporting fixtures throughout the school year as they are vital in creating lasting, special memories for all our pupils.
